    Background

    Canine distemper is a highly contagious and sometimes fatal viral disease caused by the canine distemper virus (CDV), which affects dogs and various wild animals worldwide. The virus is shed in bodily secretions from infected animals and can be spread by direct contact or exposure to respiratory droplets, and it can also be transmitted through contaminated hands, shoes, instruments, equipment, and other surfaces.
