Background

PCT has been recognized as an early warning indicator for systemic inflammatory response syndrome, sepsis, and acute respiratory distress syndrome, among other conditions. It is believed to be an endogenous, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory substance that is induced during bacterial infections and plays a significant role in regulating cytokine networks. PCT is an important diagnostic marker for detecting severe bacterial infections and a sensitive indicator for determining the type and activity of inflammation.
